  • And much more... As you can see from this incomplete list, the amount of data recoverable from a mobile phone is astounding.

There are three main methods that we can utilise to retrieve data from a mobile phone:

1. Using industry-leading Forensic hardware and software, we are able to connect to most handsets and recover data directly. This method is usually used with 'working' handsets and can be used to deal with;

  • Phone still working but data lost
  • Software Failure e.g. Phone stuck in boot loop, stuck at boot logo etc
  • Deleted media files – deliberately or by accident
  • Lost or deleted SMS, chat messages (WhatsApp, Kik, Tango, Messenger etc),
  • Lost or deleted Contacts
  • Forgotten PIN code for Android, iPhone, Windows Phone and BlackBerry
  • iPhone stuck in recovery mode
  • iPhone stuck in DFU mode
  • iPhone is Disabled Connect to iTunes
  • iPhone is Disabled Try Again in ******** Minutes
  • iPhone PIN forgotten

2. If the phone is unsupported by our Forensic solutions, we are able to use 'JTAG', 'I-SP' (In-System Programming), or 'Chip-off' which involves the following:

JTAG & I-SP - soldering thin wires to the internal circuit board of the phone - We then use those wires to connect to specialist hardware and software to extract the the data. Once the data has been recovered, we de-solder the wires, returning the phone to the state it was in beforehand

Chip-off - Used as a last resort, but is very effective in extracting data from a large range of phones for which there is no other option available, including the most badly damaged phones. Chip-off, as the name would suggest, involves disassembling the handset, then de-soldering the memory chip from the motherboard of the phone and reading data directly from it using specialist equipment. This involves equipment and skill that only a handful of companies in the UK can offer.

These advanced methods are usually used with unsupported or non-working handsets and can be used to deal with;

  • 'Dead' phones
  • Physically damaged phones
  • Water damaged phones
  • Phones which are unsupported by forensic tools
  • Software Failure e.g. Phone stuck in boot loop, stuck at boot logo etc
  • Error messages at boot up
  • Deleted media files – deliberately or by accident
  • Lost or deleted SMS, chat messages (WhatsApp, Kik, Tango, Messenger etc),
  • Lost or deleted Contacts
  • Forgotten PIN code for Android, iPhone, Windows Phone and BlackBerry
